MEET OUR EXECUTIVE
Kim Fossum
President
Hi! I’m Kim Fossum and volleyball has been a huge part of my life for over 25 years. I played for many years and some of my best memories growing up were made on the volleyball teams I was a part of. Volleyball became a part of my identity and I feel such a strong connection to the sport. I started coaching 4 years ago and I hope to coach for many more to come. I am a certified local referee and I am currently completing my level 1 coaching and this fall I have enrolled as an apprentice in the Changing the Game Mentorship Program which is a mentorship program for female coaches in Ontario. I am excited to take on my new role as SNVC’s Program Coordinator this year with the amazing Kara Yawney and Mike Nesti. Throughout the years I had some amazing coaches who gave their time and shared their knowledge and passion of the sport and they inspired me to want to do the same. Along with our SNVC executive and our amazing team of coaches, I hope to create a positive environment where the youth in our community have an opportunity learn, grow and succeed in the sport. If you see me feel free to wave or stop and chat…I’ll never turn down an opportunity to talk all things volleyball!

Hi, I’m Steve Shonosky, head coach of the 16U Girls team. I’ve been around the sport of volleyball for over 30 years, having coached for 25 of them. Unfortunately,a lack of high skill and a chronic injury led me down the coaching path at an early age, and I don’t regret it one bit! Coaching volleyball has been a large part of my life, as I truly enjoy trying to build and sell the sport on the athletes of our future. In addition to coaching players, I’ve also branched off into helping younger coaches get their feet wet and making them an integral part of our game going forward. From what I’ve seen, we have some amazing up and coming coaches in our community, and you’ll see them in head coaching roles sooner than later. I’m a certified Provincial Official as well as an Advanced Development Coach, and hold the position of Athlete Development Program Chair for OVA Region 1. Over my 25 years of coaching, I’ve coached at many different levels, including: junior/senior boys/girls high school, Club, Ontario Volleyball Region 1 head coach on many occasions, Assistant Coach at Lakehead University, Team Ontario Regional Program Coach, and most recently I’ve been training a former player of mine who is a member of the Team Canada Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team as he prepares for a run at the Paralympics. I’m a demanding, passionate coach, and one who isn’t the type to use the phrase “you’ll get it next time” but more of the “let’s get in the gym and fix it and learn to do it correctly”. If the kids want to be there, I’ll be there for them. I’ve been a part of a lot of different championships over the years, but nothing is more of a win than seeing an athlete fall in love with the sport of volleyball and develop the same passion that I share. Seeing my former players return to get into coaching after their playing careers are finished is a feeling that you can’t explain, especially when they walked into the gym many years before that without a clue as to anything about volleyball. If you have any questions about the sport, please don’t hesitate to ask. It can be a pretty confusing (but extremely exciting) sport for anyone that is new to it!
